Artist: Shirley Reade

Sunset, Acrylic painting framed on canvas, 22" x 28", 1998

Biography:
Shirley Reade was born in Portland, Oregon and raised in the Tualatin Valley. Shirley has written several step by step oil and acrylic instruction books and teacher’s manuals. She demonstrated and taught classes in trade shows across the country, directed annual painting seminars, instructor conferences, and open houses featuring national television artists.

Artist Statement:
Shirley Reade said, she is always excited and grateful to the people who promote the arts. It not only provides the artist an opportunity to tell his or her stories, but gives the viewer a powerful experience.

Background Information:
Playing light against shadow and dark values against light values is what gives her painting dimension. By controlling where the light falls and by careful blending of color values from lightest to darkest, she adds depth and character.

Shirley Reade's piece connects to the theme because it captures the beautiful sunset surrounded by trees, mountains and river. I chose this acrylic painting because I found her work very inspiring.
