Biography:
Olga Ziemska is a sculptor and
public artist that lives & works in Cleveland, Ohio in a studio by Lake
Erie. She has recieved many grants and awards including a
Fulbright Fellowship in 2002 and a Creative Workforce Fellowship in 2009 and
2013. In 2007,
Ziemska was selected as a Wendy L. Moore Emerging Artist by the Museum of
Contemporary Art in Cleveland.
Artist Statement:
The
Matka Series is
a body of work that explores the concept of place. In this series, Olga Ziemska
uses harvested trees that grow native to an area to create a female figure in
different countries all around the world.
Background Information:
Sculptor Olga Ziemska works with natural materials
like wood and bamboo to create mysteriously figurative installations for her
series titled Stillness in motion: The
Matka Series. "Matka" means "mother" in Polish and
essentially defines the figure that Ziemska recreates."- Pinar
This amazing sculpture connects to the theme because Olga Ziemska uses branches and wire to form a shape of a woman which I think makes the art piece look like mother nature. The reason I chose this sculpture is because it was the most unique piece I have ever seen.
