Biography:
Andrea Mastrovito was born in Bergamo in
1978, where he lives today. He received his MFA in 2001 from the Accademia Carrara di Belle Arti in
Bergamo. In 2007, he won the New York Prize, awarded by the Italian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Artist Statement:
An artist who uses a great amount of materials and media. Andrea Mastrovito's most eye-catching and memorable works are the ones he creates by collaging many of images from books that are installed to create swarming, jungle-like visual elements states Nathaniel Smith.
Background information:
"Approximately 700 books were brought under the artist's knife to cut out real-size images of animals. This paper diorama, suggest how strong images can be, the great amount of possibilities that knowledge-- through books-- can provide us in order to create and re-create the world that we can only imagine." -Colossal
The reason I chose this piece was because this piece of art is very interesting, it has nature all around. there are birds, butterflies animals, flowers. It makes it feel like all the the little animals and flowers are truly inside the room.
