Artist: Andy Goldsworthy

Brough, Cumbria, frozen snow carved with a stick, 150 paces, March 1984
 Biography:

Andy Goldsworthy was born in Cheshire, England in 1956 and grew up in the town of Yorkshire. In 1974 he entered Bradford College and studied Art and Design. During his time there, he experienced a turning point in his career when he attended a presentation by Richard Long. Long's presentation on what was known as "land art", building installations that shape earth, wood, water or other natural elements into works of art.
Artist Statement:
"For me looking, touching, material, place and form are all inseparable from the resulting work. It is difficult to say where one stops and another begins. Place is found by walking, direction determined by weather and season. I take the opportunity each day offers: if it is snowing, I work in snow, at leaf-fall it will be leaves; a blown over tree becomes a source of twigs and branches.” -Andy Goldsworthy
Background Information:
British Artist Andy Goldsworthy is a master of ephemeral work, capturing the beauty of nature and tempering it with the fleeting nature of all organic things. Each one of his works is a collaboration with nature, and with each piece he strives to gain a closer understand of nature through these intimate interactions.-Russ Crest

This connects to the theme because he uses snow carved with a stick to create land art. I chose this piece because I have never seen any artwork made out of snow in such a unique way.
