Artist: Chris Maynard

World Parrot Trust Auction: Macaw Dance, Blue and Gold Macaw wing feathers, 15"x12"x2", 2014

Biography:

Chris Maynard has worked with feathers since he was 12 years old but only began showing his work in 2010. Since then, his unique feather shadowboxes have been recognized by art collectors, the press, and a wide and growing variety of people from around the world.

Artist Statement:
“I hope that seeing birds in a different light through my artwork will encourage appreciation of avian life and hence a desire to conserve it." - Chris Maynard

Background Information:

“Feathers aren't just the fabulous epidermal growths of our avian friends -- they can also be found in termite-resistant building board and faster circuit boards, and in the delicate works like those of Olympia, Washington-based American artist Chris Maynard." -Kimberley Mok

I chose this this piece because Chris uses feathers to create birds flying out from a feather. I chose it because I thought it was cool he used feather as a material to create his masterpiece.
